Time Management Tip

Time Management Tip

Just Say NO.
The most important word in time and life management is the word NO. Say NO to the things that you shouldn't be doing. Say NO to others when they ask you for favors and time commitments that are not on your priority list. Say NO to things that will not help you accomplish your goals. Just Say NO.

Take full responsibility

In the day to day rush to make things happen, it is easy for one to blame others for the outcomes of our own performance. The economy, the competition, the product you sell, your boss, the coffee guy at Starbucks, and a myriad of other things.

It's easy to blame others. But no one is to blame but ourselves. Look in the mirror. No one can do things for yourself other than yourself.  Get organized, get, aggressive, get focused and get going.

In life and in sales, you will begin to soar when you finally realize, no one is coming to the rescue. Not your parents, not your boss, not your clients, not your friends. You are responsible for yourself and your results. Accept it and use it to your advantage.

Do you deliver what you promise?

It's not unusual for companies to lose business to competitors simply because they did not deliver what they promise. In the heat of the sale, it is easy for one to make promises to a client or prospect. They take you seriously and expect you to deliver on those promises.

Sometimes, the salesperson doesn't even remember the promises they made. Sometimes they over promise on purpose, and sometimes by accident. But the bottom line is that the client doesn't know and doesn't care either way. They want you to deliver on what you promise.

So be careful of what you promise. Your clients are listening and they are counting on you to deliver.  Don't let them down. If you deliver they will continue doing business with you. If you don't, they are easy prey for your competitors to steal them away from you.

Stay on Task

It has been said that the mind of an adult has an attention span of about 45 seconds.  Since we can only think one thought at a time, take a moment to think about this: How long can you hold a thought?

In the over stimulating, over saturated and overwhelmed world we live in, it is hard to keep our focus on what is most important at the moment. Get rid of all distractions. Close the door, turn off the phone, lock yourself. That will take care of external distractions.

Now comes the part that is even harder: taking full control of your thoughts. As you get to work on the most important thing you need to do, you must keep your mind on the tracks.  Think of it as driving down winding road with a cliff on one side.  You have to keep both hands on the wheel and you cannot look to the sides.  You must be careful of every thought you have. If your thoughts start to wonder about anything other than what you are working on, you must steer them back on to the road.

One technique you can use, is to keep a pad of paper next to you. When a thought comes to mind, and you know it is important, jot it down so you can get to it later and get back to your original task.
