Time Management Tip

Do the math!

Every successful salesperson, has more things to do than they can possibly accomplish in a day. That's when your elementary school math comes in handy.  Make a list of all the things you need to do.  Then in a column to the left, estimate in minutes how long each task, meeting, call, or appointment will take.  Make sure to include time allocation for travel and waiting.  Then add them all and divide them by 60.  That will give you the number of hours of work you have for the day.  Then factor in a reasonable number of minutes for your normal day to day interruptions and now you have a clear idea of how your day will go.  If the number of hours needed to complete the things you need to do is more than what you can allocate for work for the particular day, you need to make adjustments, focusing first on the most important items on your list.

Holiday weekend: Fun or Work?

Everybody deserves to have a little fun.  Especially on long holiday weekends.  We all work hard and deserve a break.  But is the Holiday weekend a time to relax, or catch up?

I say a little of both.  Yes, you are entitled to have fun during your time off, enjoy the time "off" and disconnect. But remember that in the business of sales, you are always "on".  "On" looking for ideas to help you grow. "On" to take a few minutes, or maybe a few hours to catch up on your reading.  "On" to learn from your experiences and convert them into sales lessons.

So when the next holiday comes around, be sure to enjoy with whomever or whatever makes you happy, but keep your mind focused on the game of sales.

Are you prepared?

A couple of weeks ago while on a daytrip traveling to Atlanta on business, I received a call informing me of my father's death. In a split second, my whole world shifted.  Fortunately, I had most of my business taken care of.  Except for a few instructions over the phone, I was able to leave the country with my siblings to arrange and attend the funeral.

In your personal and business life, do you have everything in order? Do you have a current passport? A will?  Do you have your files in order such that anyone can easily cover for you at work?

I don't want to alarm you, but the reality is that life does not give you a heads up. Take some time to cover the basics and make sure you are prepared and have everything in order.

Plan your work, then work you plan.  TAKE ACTION.  Make it happen.

Just go out and make the sale.
